FROM PUBLIC WORKS DEPT.: With the supply of salt running very low and the extended forecast of continuing snow and frigid temperatures, the Public Works Dept. will use the remaining supply of salt sparingly. What this means is that streets will continue to be plowed and salt only used on the worst hills and major intersections. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but the circumstances dictate it and are out of our control. PLEASE DRIVE WITH CARE AND CAUTION. Thank you in advance for your understanding of the situation.

The City of Alexandria receives many calls regarding the condition of city streets. Please take into consideration that the Public Works Department does everything they can to get the streets as clean as possible for residents.
When snow is predicted our Public Works Supervisor decides if a pre-treatment is necessary. If it is below a certain temperature however, pre-treat or salt has no effect on the snow. When there is rapid snow fall, it is sometimes better to wait until the snow starts to quit and then plow. Their main concern is to at least have a path for travel in and out of the street, then return to remove as much snow as possible. Also, please remember that snow has to be put somewhere and they put it where they can at that time.
PLEASE BE PATIENT AND FOLLOW THESE SNOW TIPS:
When snow is predicted and you have a driveway, PLEASE USE IT…keeping cars off the street so they can clear a bigger path means they can pile snow in yards, not on your car. It is very helpful to you and the crew to have the cars off the street so a wider path can be created. It also is safer for your car, and the City crew for avoiding accidents.
When snow is plowed, some will usually end up in your driveway and yard…it’s either that, or the street doesn’t get plowed. The snow has to go somewhere!
Mailboxes…again, the snow is pushed to the side of the street and may block your mailbox. It is your responsibility to clear the snow around your mailbox so they will deliver mail.
- We are asked why salt hasn’t been put down during snow storms? If the temperature is below 25 degrees, salt does not work and thus wasteful.
Hello and welcome to Alexandria!
Alexandria is a great place to live, work, or shop. We’re just about 30 minutes from downtown Cincinnati and the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky International Airport, less than that to great shopping, either at regional malls or our own Village Green Shopping Center. Of course, Alexandria has dozens of specialty retailers and good restaurants as well.
Our school systems, both public and private, are among the best. We’re just 15 minutes from Northern Kentucky University and within easy commuting distance of the University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, and Thomas More College, just to name a few of the educational opportunities.
And with all of that going for us, perhaps the best and most amazing thing is we’re still enjoying a laid back, almost rural community with friendly neighbors and beautiful vistas.
Our tag line “Where the City meets the Country” is not just a slogan. It really captures the idea that we have every amenity available to us, but we can escape to the peace and quiet just by coming home.
We’re looking forward to seeing you in our town.
